Two sizes, measured honestly

Plush toys always look bigger in a photograph than they do in a box, and "smaller than I expected" is the number one reason anything comes back to us. So here are the real numbers. Bears are measured standing, from the feet to the top of the head, with the capybara hood on.

Mini bear, 15 cm / 5.9 in

The keychain size. Sits in a palm, clips to a bag strap on a metal clasp, and weighs almost nothing. This is the one people buy two of.

Jointed bear, 30 cm / 12 in

About 23 cm (9 in) when sitting. Arms, legs and head all turn, so it can sit on a shelf, hold on to a mug, or slump. This is the bear in the gift bundles.

Outfits

Capybara hoodies are sold separately in two fits: one for the 15 cm mini bear, one for the 30 cm jointed bear. They pull on and off, so one bear can change without buying another bear.

How to wash a capybara bear

  • Spot clean first. Most marks come off with a damp cloth and nothing else.
  • Hand wash at 30 C with a neutral detergent if it needs more than that.
  • Do not tumble dry. Squeeze the water out gently and air dry away from direct heat.
  • Brush the fur back into shape with a soft comb once it is dry. Fur flattens in a box; this fixes it.
  • Take the hoodie off before washing the bear, and wash the two separately.

Everyday care

  • Keep away from radiators, open flames and long hours of direct sun.
  • Safety eyes are fitted rather than glued, but remove all hang tags before giving a bear to a child.
  • Recommended for ages 6 and up, because of the small parts on the charms and clasps.

How we measure

Sitting, base to the top of the head

A capybara sits. That is its default state, so that is how we measure: from the surface it is sitting on to the highest point of its head, with the ears left out of it. Nose to tail, a Classic is roughly 34 cm (13½ in) long and 22 cm (8½ in) across.

Every product page repeats the exact figures for that capybara in centimetres and inches, and the tolerance is ±1 cm — these are hand-stuffed, and two of the same size will never be identical to the millimetre. That is not a defect. It is the reason yours looks like yours.

Choosing a size

Which size do most people buy?

Classic, by a wide margin. It is big enough to look like a proper capybara on a bed or a desk, and small enough to travel. If you are buying a first one and cannot decide, buy Classic.

Is Mini too small for a gift?

It depends who for. Mini is genuinely small — about the length of a hand — and works best as a desk companion, a bag charm's larger cousin, or the second capybara in a pair. As a standalone gift for an adult, Classic reads better.

Is Big Hug too big for a child's bed?

No, but know what you are getting: at 50 cm sitting it takes up roughly a quarter of a single bed and it is genuinely a pillow. Children love it. Parents occasionally have opinions about the laundry.

Send it back within sixty days, unwashed and with the tag attached, and we refund the item in full. Return shipping is on us within the GCC, the UK and the EU. We would rather you had the right one.
